About the programme
This selection interview tests whether you can collect and analyse detailed health accounts without leading or harming participants. The team will look for strong listening, ethical judgement, disciplined coding and reliable field records. You may be asked to respond to distress, confidentiality risks or inconsistent data collection.
How to prepare
- Practise turning closed questions into open questions and neutral follow-up probes.
- Review informed consent, confidentiality and procedures for participant distress.
- Prepare to explain how you would code transcripts and refine themes.
- Think of an example where careful listening changed your understanding of a problem.
- Review secure naming, storage and transfer practices for sensitive research data.
Common mistakes
- Using leading probes that push participants towards the researcher's assumptions.
- Treating consent as a single signature rather than an ongoing process.
- Reporting only the accounts that fit an attractive theme.
- Keeping identifiable health data in filenames or unsecured personal folders.
