About the role
A product owner keeps a delivery team's backlog clear, ordered and ready to work on. Day to day you write user stories with acceptance criteria, run refinement and sprint planning with the team, answer questions quickly and accept finished work. The panel wants to know that you can turn business needs into clear, small pieces of work and protect the team's focus.
How to prepare
- Practise writing a user story with clear acceptance criteria for a feature you know well.
- Prepare an example of splitting a large piece of work into smaller stories that still deliver value.
- Think about how you handle a stakeholder who wants something added in the middle of a sprint.
- Revise the main agile ceremonies and your role in each, without reciting textbook definitions.
- Have a story about a sprint that went wrong and what you changed afterwards.
Common mistakes
- Writing stories that are really tasks with no user or value attached.
- Saying yes to every request instead of prioritising openly with stakeholders.
- Leaning on agile jargon instead of describing what you actually did.
