About the role
This interview is for tutoring maths through a video platform rather than in the same room as the learner. The panel will look for secure subject knowledge, precise diagnosis of mistakes and lessons that require the learner to think and respond. They also need confidence that you can manage technology and communicate reliably with families.
How to prepare
- Practise explaining a common maths misconception with a diagram and a worked example.
- Plan a short online lesson with a clear goal, frequent questions and an exit check.
- Review the digital whiteboard, quiz and screen sharing tools you can use confidently.
- Prepare a backup routine for power, audio or internet disruption.
- Think about how you would report progress without promising a particular grade.
Common mistakes
- Solving every question while the learner watches passively.
- Treating every wrong answer as carelessness instead of checking the reasoning.
- Using online tools that distract from the mathematical goal.
- Ignoring how you would recover learning time after a technical interruption.
