About the role
An NDT inspector finds discontinuities without damaging the component and must be able to defend every result. The panel is assessing your choice of method, control of equipment and test conditions, interpretation against acceptance criteria and professional judgement when production pressure conflicts with inspection integrity.
How to prepare
- Review the strengths and limitations of the examination methods you use most often.
- Prepare an example of a difficult indication and how you confirmed its source.
- Think through what you do when calibration or test conditions become unacceptable.
- Practise explaining acceptance criteria separately from indication detection.
- Prepare an example of protecting inspection integrity under schedule pressure.
Common mistakes
- Claiming that one examination method can reliably find every type of flaw.
- Calling an indication a defect before applying the relevant acceptance criteria.
- Ignoring surface condition, access or calibration when explaining a result.
