About the role
This interview covers the full monitoring, evaluation and learning cycle, from programme logic and indicators to data quality, interpretation and action. The panel wants someone who can use proportionate methods, challenge weak evidence tactfully and help delivery teams learn rather than only report figures.
How to prepare
- Practise turning a programme objective into outputs, outcomes, indicators, sources and assumptions.
- Prepare an example of an evaluation design choice and the limitations you had to manage.
- Review checks for missing, inconsistent, duplicated and implausible monitoring data.
- Choose a case where evidence led to a change in programme delivery.
- Practise presenting one finding differently for field staff, senior leaders and a funding partner.
Common mistakes
- Choosing indicators because data is easy to collect rather than because it answers a decision.
- Claiming that an observed change was caused by a programme without considering alternative explanations.
- Focusing on donor reporting while giving no example of learning or adaptation.
- Describing data cleaning without explaining how errors are prevented at source.
