About this interview
This promotion interview tests whether an experienced operator or team leader can take responsibility for an entire manufacturing shift. The panel is looking for firm safety decisions, disciplined production and quality control, fair supervision and handovers that allow the next shift to act quickly.
How to prepare
- Review examples where you stopped unsafe work or helped prevent a repeat incident.
- Practise explaining how you respond to breakdowns without sacrificing safety or quality.
- Prepare a defect or rework example that covers containment, investigation and corrective action.
- Choose examples of coaching an operator and resolving a disagreement on shift.
- Review the production, safety, quality and maintenance details expected in a handover.
Common mistakes
- Protecting output by accepting an unsafe shortcut.
- Restarting production before defects are contained and authority is clear.
- Solving every technical problem personally instead of coordinating the right support.
- Giving the next shift a vague verbal update with no usable record.
