About the role
This interview covers leadership of instrumentation, control and safeguarding work on oil and gas facilities. The panel is testing whether you can connect process intent to reliable field devices and systems, manage complex vendor interfaces, and diagnose live-plant problems with disciplined technical judgement.
How to prepare
- Review control narratives, alarm philosophy, shutdown logic and cause-and-effect development.
- Prepare examples of difficult instrument selection and control-loop troubleshooting.
- Rehearse how you plan factory testing, site testing and commissioning of integrated systems.
- Think through interface management for packages, control systems and safety systems.
- Prepare an example of checking team output or resolving a cross-discipline design conflict.
Common mistakes
- Selecting instruments by familiar technology without checking process and environmental conditions.
- Describing shutdown logic without linking each action to the hazard it controls.
- Leaving package interfaces to vendors without clear ownership and end-to-end testing.
- Changing live control systems before establishing a safe test and rollback approach.
