About the role
This interview tests how you turn site conditions and a client brief into a landscape that can be built, used and maintained. The panel will look for sound design judgement, coordinated technical work, appropriate planting and calm communication when constraints change.
How to prepare
- Choose two landscape projects and be clear about your personal design and delivery responsibilities.
- Review how you assess levels, drainage, soil, sunlight, circulation and existing vegetation at concept stage.
- Practise explaining a planting palette in terms of climate, water demand, maintenance and user experience.
- Prepare an example of coordinating your drawings with architecture, civil works and building services.
- Think through how you would defend design quality while responding to cost or programme pressure.
Common mistakes
- Discussing appearance without explaining drainage, levels, durability or maintenance.
- Presenting team work without identifying the decisions and drawings you personally owned.
- Specifying plants without considering local site conditions and how they will be maintained.
