About the role
This interview tests how you operate the IP layer behind telecoms services, from routing and resilience to congestion and controlled change. The panel is looking for sound protocol knowledge, evidence-led troubleshooting and respect for the effect a network change can have on customers.
How to prepare
- Review BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS and the failure modes you have handled in production.
- Prepare a clear example of tracing packet loss or a routing issue across several network hops.
- Practise explaining how you assess risk, test a change and decide whether to roll it back.
- Review the interface and routing metrics you use to identify congestion or instability.
Common mistakes
- Listing protocol definitions without explaining design trade-offs.
- Making a configuration change before confirming the fault domain.
- Treating a successful command as proof that customer traffic is healthy.
