About the role
An inventory analyst turns stock records and physical-count results into decisions about availability, loss and working capital. This interview tests your command of ERP and spreadsheet data, your investigation discipline and your ability to explain findings to operational teams.
How to prepare
- Review inventory ageing, turnover, days of cover and count-accuracy measures.
- Prepare a variance investigation from detection through corrective action.
- Practise explaining reorder points, safety stock and lead-time variability.
- Be ready to describe how you clean and reconcile data from different reports.
- Think through how you would prioritise cycle counts using value and risk.
Common mistakes
- Reporting a variance without tracing the transactions and physical movements behind it.
- Using one stock policy for materials with very different value, lead time and risk.
- Presenting tables without explaining the operational decision they support.
