About the role
This interview tests whether you can learn safely in a hazardous oil and gas environment. The panel will look for careful observation, a basic grasp of permits and controls, and the confidence to report concerns without pretending to know more than you do.
How to prepare
- Revise the hierarchy of controls and apply it to hot work, working at height and confined spaces.
- Learn what a permit to work confirms and why the job site must match the permit.
- Prepare an example of spotting a hazard during a laboratory, workshop, placement or field activity.
- Practise describing observations with facts, location, immediate risk and recommended action.
- Review how to stop and escalate work when an unsafe condition could cause immediate harm.
Common mistakes
- Reciting safety slogans without explaining the hazard and control.
- Assuming that a signed permit makes the work safe without checking the site.
- Staying silent about a serious risk because a more experienced person is present.
