About the role
This interview tests how you lead monitoring, evaluation and learning across an organisation, not just how you manage indicators. The panel is looking for credible methodological judgement, honest handling of weak evidence and the influence to turn findings into programme and investment decisions.
How to prepare
- Map an example from programme theory through indicators, data collection, analysis and a decision.
- Prepare a case where evidence led you to stop, adapt or scale an activity.
- Review how you assess data quality, evaluation independence and contribution claims.
- Think through how you balance common organisational measures with donor and programme needs.
- Prepare an example of developing MEL staff and strengthening evidence practice outside your own team.
Common mistakes
- Treating reporting compliance as the same thing as organisational learning.
- Making causal claims that the design or data cannot support.
- Listing indicators without explaining who will use them and for which decisions.
- Ignoring consent, confidentiality or the risks of collecting sensitive information.
