About the role
A monitoring and evaluation officer measures whether a programme is working. You design results frameworks and indicators, plan data collection, check data quality, analyse the findings and help the team learn and adjust. The panel is deciding whether your data is reliable and whether people act on it.
How to prepare
- Be ready to explain the difference between outputs, outcomes and impact with a real example.
- Prepare a story about a data quality problem you found and how you fixed it.
- Review the data tools you have used, from spreadsheets to mobile data collection and analysis software.
- Think about how you share findings so that programme staff change what they do.
- Read the organisation's recent reports and note how they present results.
Common mistakes
- Talking about collecting data without showing how it led to a decision.
- Using heavy jargon when a plain explanation would show more understanding.
- Ignoring ethics and consent in data collection.
