About the role
The Head of Credit Risk interview tests your control of the framework behind lending decisions and portfolio outcomes. The panel will look for forward-looking risk judgement, credible model and impairment oversight, executive influence and leadership across specialist credit teams.
How to prepare
- Trace how risk appetite should flow into limits, scorecards, approval rules, monitoring and collections action.
- Prepare an example where portfolio analysis prompted a change before losses became obvious.
- Review governance for credit models, data quality, impairment assumptions and management overlays.
- Practise explaining portfolio migration and stress results to a non-technical executive audience.
- Prepare a leadership example that improved consistency across separate credit teams or business lines.
Common mistakes
- Focusing on policy documents without explaining how you detect weak execution.
- Treating model output as a decision that needs no expert challenge.
- Waiting for arrears to rise before recognising portfolio deterioration.
- Giving technical answers without stating the executive action required.
