About the role
This interview tests your ability to plan fibre networks that are buildable, resilient and commercially justified. The panel will explore route selection, topology, capacity, shared risks, cost options and the controls that carry a plan into construction. They also want evidence that you can challenge demand and schedule assumptions without losing stakeholder support.
How to prepare
- Practise explaining how demand forecasts, route surveys, optical budgets and resilience needs shape a fibre plan.
- Review how to detect common points of failure that are hidden by logical network drawings.
- Prepare a comparison of building, leasing and partnering for a route with uncertain utilisation.
- Think through the controls between high-level design, detailed design, construction and as-built acceptance.
- Prepare an example of resolving a conflict between a commercial deadline and delivery evidence.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the shortest route without considering access, permits, hazards and physical diversity.
- Treating forecast demand as certain instead of testing different utilisation outcomes.
- Discussing logical redundancy while overlooking shared ducts, bridges, power or landing points.
- Leaving ownership of as-built records unclear after construction.
