About the programme
A fashion design training admission interview looks at how you turn ideas into wearable garments and how willing you are to build technical skill through practice. The panel considers your eye for shape and detail, your understanding of fabric and fit, and how you respond when a first attempt needs to change.
How to prepare
- Organise a small selection of designs and be ready to explain the purpose behind each one.
- Review basic fabric properties, measurement taking and garment construction terms.
- Think of a making problem you diagnosed and corrected.
- Practise explaining how you would adapt a design for a wearer's needs and budget.
- Identify the technical skills you most want the training programme to develop.
Common mistakes
- Discussing trends without explaining the needs of the intended wearer.
- Claiming every first attempt worked instead of showing how you solve mistakes.
- Ignoring fabric behaviour when describing a design.
- Presenting copied looks without explaining your own decisions.
