About the role
An external audit associate performs detailed testing and turns the results into reviewable working papers. This interview examines your grasp of assertions and accounting treatment, your response to missing or conflicting evidence and the way you manage everyday client requests.
How to prepare
- Review revenue cut-off, expense testing, receivables confirmation and bank testing at an associate level.
- Practise explaining why a procedure addresses a particular assertion rather than listing steps from memory.
- Revise common distinctions between capital and operating expenditure.
- Prepare an example of resolving incomplete information while keeping a clear record of your actions.
- Think through how you would write an exception, its impact and the next action for a reviewer.
Common mistakes
- Listing documents without connecting them to the risk being tested.
- Assuming every unsupported item is fraud rather than investigating it objectively.
- Leaving the reviewer to infer what work was performed and what conclusion was reached.
- Waiting until the deadline to report that client information is missing.
