About the role
This interview is for a senior television leader accountable for editorial direction, delivery and the performance of a programme slate. The panel will test how you assess ideas, make difficult production choices, control budgets and lead experienced creative teams. Strong answers connect creative ambition to audience needs and practical delivery.
How to prepare
- Review the organisation's current programmes and form a view on audience, positioning and gaps in the slate.
- Choose two productions where your decisions materially changed the editorial or commercial outcome.
- Prepare an example of recovering a production that was over budget, late or editorially weak.
- Revisit your approach to live broadcast errors, rights, contributor welfare and editorial escalation.
- Practise explaining how you challenge a commissioner or senior creative without damaging the relationship.
Common mistakes
- Claiming the team's creative work without explaining your own decisions.
- Discussing audience success without showing how you judged quality or performance.
- Treating budget control as separate from editorial choices.
- Avoiding difficult examples involving errors, conflict or underperformance.
