About the role
A creative director is accountable for the quality and direction of an agency's creative output. The role combines idea judgement, hands-on craft, client influence, team leadership and practical production decisions. The panel will assess both the work in your portfolio and how you helped teams, clients and partners make that work better.
How to prepare
- Edit your portfolio to a small set of campaigns that reveal range, judgement and your precise contribution.
- Prepare to explain how strategy shaped each idea and how the idea adapted across channels.
- Choose an example of improving weak work through feedback without taking the work away from its creators.
- Rehearse a client challenge involving risk, taste, brand fit or production cost.
- Think through how you set standards, allocate briefs and develop emerging creative leaders.
Common mistakes
- Showing polished work without separating your contribution from the team's contribution.
- Defending ideas through personal taste instead of strategy, audience and brand fit.
- Giving vague feedback such as making the work stronger or more exciting.
- Ignoring production constraints until they threaten the idea or deadline.
