About the role
This interview covers security architecture for cloud estates used by multiple engineering teams. The panel is looking for strong identity design, layered technical controls, automation that prevents unsafe defaults and clear judgement when security, reliability, cost and delivery needs compete.
How to prepare
- Practise drawing a multi-account or multi-subscription cloud design with explicit trust boundaries and control ownership.
- Review human access, workload identity, secrets handling and emergency access patterns.
- Prepare an example of implementing cloud guardrails through policy and infrastructure as code.
- Think through data protection controls for storage, transfer, processing, backup and deletion.
- Choose an architecture disagreement and explain how evidence, testing and risk acceptance led to a decision.
Common mistakes
- Relying on network boundaries while overlooking identities and application permissions.
- Naming cloud services without explaining the threat each control addresses.
- Designing strict guardrails without a governed path for legitimate exceptions.
