About the role
This interview tests how you would own the commercial performance of a consumer electronics category. The panel is looking for evidence that you can read category data, shape the range, negotiate supplier terms and manage stock risk in a market where products and prices change quickly.
How to prepare
- Review how sales, gross margin, conversion, stock cover and returns reveal different parts of category performance.
- Prepare an example of changing an assortment or price after analysing customer and competitor demand.
- Think through the risks of buying electronics with short product life cycles and volatile replacement costs.
- Rehearse a supplier negotiation that covered payment, returns, marketing support or availability as well as price.
- Prepare to explain how you would align stock, content and campaign activity before a promotion goes live.
Common mistakes
- Talking only about revenue without considering margin, stock ageing and returns.
- Treating every supplier discount as attractive without testing demand and inventory risk.
- Choosing a range from personal taste rather than customer and market evidence.
- Ignoring the operational work needed to make a promotion deliver.
