About the role
A brand manager owns how a product is positioned, priced and seen in the market, and steers agencies, campaigns and the brand budget. At senior level you answer to leadership for brand health and market share. The panel is deciding whether you can turn consumer insight into decisions and lead others to deliver them.
How to prepare
- Prepare one brand you grew or repositioned, with the insight behind it and the measurable result.
- Visit markets and stores to see how the company's products and rivals sit on the shelf and at what price.
- Be clear on how you brief and manage an agency, including how you handle work that misses the brief.
- Think through how you protect a brand when consumers trade down because prices keep rising.
- Know the brand health measures you track and how often you review them.
Common mistakes
- Showing beautiful creative work without connecting it to sales or brand health.
- Describing agency work as your own instead of explaining what you decided and why.
- Ignoring distribution and price when explaining why a brand won or lost.
