About the role
This interview covers the planning and delivery of meetings, celebrations and banquets across venue, catering and supplier teams. The panel wants evidence that you can translate a changing client brief into precise instructions, protect the budget and remain composed when event-day conditions shift.
How to prepare
- Prepare an event example covering the first enquiry, planning decisions, handover and final delivery.
- Review the information that belongs in a banquet event order, function sheet or equivalent plan.
- Practise responding to late changes in guest count, menu, layout, timing and equipment.
- Be ready to explain how you record approvals and chargeable extras.
- Think through backup arrangements for power, sound, suppliers and delayed guests.
Common mistakes
- Relying on verbal agreements instead of confirming decisions and changes in writing.
- Focusing on decoration while overlooking access, service flow, equipment and safety.
- Agreeing to late requests before checking cost, staffing and operational feasibility.
- Describing a successful event without explaining your own planning decisions.
