About the role
This interview tests whether you can lead a sustained economics research programme while teaching, supervising and contributing to academic decisions. The panel will probe the credibility of your methods, the significance of your work and how you develop students and collaborators.
How to prepare
- Select two research contributions and explain the question, method, finding and limitation of each.
- Review the identification choices and robustness checks in your strongest empirical work.
- Prepare an example of improving an economics course or assessment.
- Think through a supervision case that required you to narrow or redirect a project.
- Be ready to distinguish your contribution from that of your co-authors.
Common mistakes
- Reporting findings without addressing identification or alternative explanations.
- Using technical language without explaining the economic significance.
- Overstating your role in co-authored work.
- Treating supervision as correction rather than researcher development.
