About the role
This interview tests whether you can lead an AML programme that responds to real customer and transaction risks. The panel will look for sound judgement, disciplined escalation, command of regulatory expectations and the ability to improve controls without losing sight of how the bank operates.
How to prepare
- Review how customer risk ratings, enhanced due diligence, screening and transaction monitoring fit together.
- Prepare an example of an AML control weakness you diagnosed and brought through remediation.
- Think through how you would assess alert quality, investigator productivity and the reasons for case closures.
- Review the official regulator's current AML guidance and relevant circulars before the interview.
- Prepare to explain how you challenge senior commercial stakeholders and document difficult decisions.
Common mistakes
- Treating every alert as equally risky instead of explaining a risk-based approach.
- Focusing on policy language without showing how controls work in customer journeys and payment flows.
- Escalating concerns without a clear record of evidence, decisions and accountable owners.
