About the role
An advertising account director leads senior client relationships and the commercial performance of several accounts or one large portfolio. This interview tests whether you can counsel decision makers, align integrated teams, grow revenue responsibly and build capable account leaders. The panel will expect clear evidence of the scale you owned and the choices you made when client, creative and financial needs pulled in different directions.
How to prepare
- Map the size and complexity of the portfolios you have led without revealing confidential client information.
- Prepare a turnaround example involving client trust, delivery performance or commercial health.
- Review how you forecast revenue, protect margin and decide where to add or reduce resource.
- Choose a pitch or organic growth story that shows how you shaped the opportunity and mobilised the team.
- Prepare examples of delegating ownership and developing account managers into stronger client advisers.
Common mistakes
- Speaking about senior relationships as hospitality rather than useful business counsel.
- Giving revenue figures without explaining margin, delivery cost or your decisions.
- Presenting growth as aggressive selling instead of solving a real client problem.
- Describing team leadership only as checking work and attending meetings.
