About this interview

This interview is for volunteers who support young people through group activities and mentoring in a faith community. The panel looks closely at safeguarding, respectful communication, inclusion, preparation and the judgement to involve the appropriate leader when a concern exceeds the volunteer's role.

How to prepare

  1. Review the organisation's safeguarding, supervision and communication procedures before the interview.
  2. Prepare examples of facilitating a group or supporting someone through a difficult conversation.
  3. Think through how you would respond to a disclosure without investigating it yourself.
  4. Plan one simple inclusive activity with a clear purpose and a backup option.

Common mistakes

  • Promising secrecy when a safeguarding concern must be reported.
  • Contacting participants through unapproved private channels.
  • Trying to counsel beyond your competence instead of involving the designated leader.
