About the role
This interview covers the leadership of a safe, relevant and purposeful youth ministry. The panel is assessing whether you can design programmes with young people, protect participants, develop volunteers and build constructive relationships with families and community partners.
How to prepare
- Prepare an example of a youth programme you designed, adapted or evaluated.
- Review safeguarding responses involving communication, transport, disclosure and adult boundaries.
- Think about how young people would influence programme topics and delivery.
- Prepare an example of coaching a volunteer whose intentions were good but practice needed to improve.
- Identify useful signs of growth or participation beyond attendance alone.
Common mistakes
- Planning for young people without showing how you listen to them.
- Treating safeguarding as a policy document rather than daily behaviour and supervision.
- Relying on energetic events without explaining the intended development or pastoral outcome.
- Ignoring parents and carers when difficult questions or concerns arise.
