About this interview
A strengths-based graduate interview explores what you naturally enjoy and do well, often through short questions delivered at a brisk pace. Interviewers listen for honest patterns in your motivation, learning and teamwork, supported by examples from study, work, volunteering or other responsibilities.
How to prepare
- Notice which activities give you energy and which strengths other people consistently recognise in you.
- Collect examples from coursework, employment, volunteering and group activities rather than relying on one setting.
- Study the daily tasks in the job description and connect them to what genuinely motivates you.
- Practise answering brisk questions naturally without forcing every response into a long formula.
- Reflect on recent feedback and how it changed your approach.
Common mistakes
- Guessing the strength the interviewer wants and giving an answer that does not sound genuine.
- Naming flattering qualities without showing how they appear in your behaviour.
- Assuming academic examples are less valuable than formal work experience.
- Turning each quick question into a long rehearsed speech.
