About the role

A social media manager plans and runs a brand's presence across social platforms. You build content calendars, write and approve posts, engage with the community, report on performance and handle complaints before they spiral. The panel wants creative judgement, a feel for the brand voice and calm when something goes viral for the wrong reasons.

How to prepare

  1. Prepare a content plan you built, with the goals, formats and performance results.
  2. Study the company's social accounts and be ready to suggest specific improvements.
  3. Think through, step by step, how you would handle a complaint that is gaining traction online.
  4. Revise the metrics that matter beyond likes, such as reach, saves, clicks and conversions.
  5. Practise explaining how you adapt tone for different platforms and audiences.

Common mistakes

  • Chasing trends that do not fit the brand.
  • Reporting vanity numbers without linking them to business goals.
  • Responding defensively or deleting comments during a public complaint.
