About the role
This interview tests how you run an electronics category as a commercial business. The panel will look for sharp assortment judgement, confident vendor negotiation and evidence that you can balance sales, margin, availability and stock risk. Expect to explain decisions with data rather than relying on supplier claims or personal product preferences.
How to prepare
- Review how you assess category sales, margin, conversion, stock cover and ageing inventory together.
- Prepare an example of changing an assortment or pricing decision after analysing customer and competitor data.
- Practise a vendor negotiation covering cost price, promotional funding, returns and availability.
- Think through how product launches, short life cycles and warranty concerns affect electronics buying.
- Study the employer's electronics range and identify a customer need or price band that may be underserved.
Common mistakes
- Talking only about revenue without showing how margin and inventory changed.
- Choosing products from personal taste instead of customer demand and commercial evidence.
- Treating vendor negotiation as a one-off demand for a lower price.
- Ignoring returns, warranty issues and rapid product obsolescence.
