About the role
A security guard interview tests how you protect people, property and access points during routine and difficult situations. The panel wants alert observation, calm judgement, firm but respectful communication and reliable reporting across different shifts.
How to prepare
- Review how to patrol a site and report a hazard or security breach.
- Prepare an example of staying calm when another person was angry or uncooperative.
- Practise describing events in a factual order without assumptions.
- Think through how you would call for help while keeping people away from danger.
Common mistakes
- Trying to handle a dangerous incident alone instead of escalating it.
- Allowing rank or familiarity to override access procedures.
- Giving opinions in an incident report instead of observable facts.
