About the role

A script supervisor protects continuity and creates the detailed record that connects the set to the edit. The interview tests how you track takes, timings, coverage, dialogue and visual details while filming out of sequence. The panel also wants tact, stamina and confidence when a concern must be raised quickly.

How to prepare

  1. Revise your system for lining scripts and recording slates, takes, timings and director selections.
  2. Prepare an example of catching a mismatch involving action, eyelines, wardrobe, props or dialogue.
  3. Practise explaining continuity concerns briefly to a director working under time pressure.
  4. Review how you issue daily reports and transfer reliable notes to editorial.
  5. Think through how you absorb revised pages without losing the record of earlier decisions.

Common mistakes

  • Describing continuity as memory rather than a disciplined recording process.
  • Interrupting a setup without judging when and how to raise the issue.
  • Recording what happened but failing to identify the preferred take or coverage gaps.
  • Sharing production details that should remain confidential.
