About the award
A revenue-based finance pitch is for a business seeking capital that will be repaid as an agreed share of future revenue. The panel focuses on the reliability of revenue, the timing of collections, downside cash flow and whether the funded activity can generate enough additional income. They also want to see that the founder understands the trade-offs of this structure.
How to prepare
- Reconcile headline revenue to banked cash and explain credit sales, refunds and delayed collections.
- Map customer concentration, repeat purchases, contract length and churn so the quality of revenue is visible.
- Run repayment scenarios for strong, expected and weak trading conditions without inventing precision.
- Link each use of capital to an operational action, a measurable indicator and a route to revenue.
- Compare this finance with equity and fixed repayment debt, including the effect on cash and control.
Common mistakes
- Presenting invoiced sales as if all of the cash has already been collected.
- Ignoring the strain that repayments can place on stock, payroll or supplier payments.
- Using the capital for uncertain long-term experiments when the repayment begins from near-term revenue.
- Claiming revenue is predictable without addressing churn, seasonality or customer concentration.
