About the role
A registered nurse assesses and cares for patients, gives medicines safely, keeps accurate records and keeps families informed. On a busy ward you set priorities constantly and escalate when a patient gets worse. The panel is deciding whether you are safe, calm and caring.
How to prepare
- Prepare an example of spotting a patient getting worse and how you escalated it.
- Refresh the rights of medication administration and how you prevent errors.
- Think through how you prioritise when several patients need you at once.
- Be ready to describe how you talk to an anxious or angry family member.
- Know the infection prevention steps you follow on every shift.
Common mistakes
- Giving textbook answers without real ward examples.
- Leaving out escalation and documentation when describing care.
- Sounding rushed or dismissive when talking about patients and families.
