About the role
A construction quality manager builds the controls that prevent defective materials and workmanship from passing unnoticed. The panel wants strong technical judgement, usable quality systems and evidence that you can challenge programme pressure without becoming detached from site delivery.
How to prepare
- Review how you derive inspections, hold points and acceptance criteria from project requirements.
- Prepare a non-conformance example covering containment, investigation, correction and verification.
- Think through quality controls for concrete, reinforcement, finishes and concealed services.
- Choose an example of improving a subcontractor's quality performance through clear evidence.
- Be ready to explain how audits and trend data change site priorities.
Common mistakes
- Treating completed checklists as proof that the work itself meets requirements.
- Accepting repair proposals before the cause and structural implications are understood.
- Positioning quality as one department's task rather than a controlled part of construction.
