About the award
This competitive scholarship interview assesses whether you have the quantitative foundation and judgement for advanced data science study. The panel is interested in how you reason about imperfect data, validate claims, manage harm and connect the degree to a worthwhile application.
How to prepare
- Check the official scholarship site for current criteria, documents and dates.
- Review probability, sampling, model evaluation and the assumptions behind methods in your portfolio.
- Prepare one data project in enough detail to explain cleaning choices, baselines, validation and limitations.
- Compare the relevant modules with your current skills and identify the precise gap the course will address.
- Consider privacy, bias, security and who could be harmed by errors in your intended application.
Common mistakes
- Naming algorithms without explaining why they fit the question and data.
- Reporting a strong score without a baseline, validation method or error analysis.
- Treating data cleaning, documentation and ethics as secondary to modelling.
- Claiming that a technical method removes the need for human judgement.
