About the role
A Planning Engineer creates and maintains the time model that guides construction delivery. The interview tests whether you can build sound logic, measure progress honestly, analyse delay and turn programme detail into credible forecasts and recovery actions.
How to prepare
- Practise explaining how scope, quantities, productivity, calendars and constraints become programme activities.
- Review critical path, float, baselines, status dates and logic checks in the scheduling tool you use.
- Prepare an example where site evidence differed from reported progress.
- Think through a delay analysis without assuming every late activity delays completion.
- Prepare a recovery recommendation and the cost, resource or access trade-offs it created.
Common mistakes
- Building a programme from dates alone without defensible logic and production assumptions.
- Accepting subjective progress claims without quantities, inspections or other site evidence.
- Suggesting blanket acceleration without considering access, safety, resources and cost.
