About the role

This role builds fair, accountable relationships with local organisations and helps move decision making closer to affected communities. The panel will test whether you can balance trust and compliance, support partner-defined development and influence internal systems that may work against localisation.

How to prepare

  1. Prepare a partnership example that shows how decisions, budgets and credit were shared.
  2. Review how you make due diligence proportionate to the grant, context and partner's role.
  3. Think of capacity strengthening that responded to a partner's priorities rather than a standard checklist.
  4. Prepare a difficult negotiation involving risk, indirect costs, reporting or programme control.
  5. Be ready to explain indicators you would use to track progress on localisation.

Common mistakes

  • Presenting local partners only as delivery agents rather than decision makers.
  • Confusing localisation with transferring risk while retaining control.
  • Treating capacity strengthening as one-way training with no organisational change.
  • Avoiding honest discussion of power, overheads and unequal access to donor relationships.
