About this interview
A panel interview means facing several interviewers at once, often from different teams such as HR, the hiring manager and a senior leader. Each brings their own focus, so you need to show role knowledge, clear motivation and composure while keeping every panel member engaged.
How to prepare
- Find out who is on the panel beforehand and think about what each person cares about.
- Prepare answers on the role, your experience and why you want it.
- Practise answering the person who asked while making eye contact with the others.
- Get used to switching quickly between technical and general topics.
- Prepare one or two thoughtful points to raise at the end about the role or team.
Common mistakes
- Speaking only to the most senior person and ignoring the rest of the panel.
- Letting a tough panel member rattle you for the rest of the interview.
- Forgetting the names or roles introduced at the start.
