About this interview
This interview selects graduate engineers for structured learning across technical and operational teams in oil and gas. The panel is testing engineering foundations, disciplined safety judgement, a methodical response to uncertain plant information, and willingness to learn from people with different expertise.
How to prepare
- Revise the engineering principles most relevant to your discipline and practise explaining them without jargon.
- Review hazard identification, permit to work, isolation and escalation principles.
- Choose an academic or industrial project where you tested assumptions and resolved a technical problem.
- Practise separating symptoms, evidence, possible causes and safe diagnostic steps.
- Prepare an example of receiving technical criticism and improving your work.
Common mistakes
- Jumping to equipment replacement before checking measurements and operating conditions.
- Presenting safety rules as paperwork rather than controls against real hazards.
- Pretending to know an answer instead of stating assumptions or asking for appropriate guidance.
