About the role
This interview tests your control of containerised ocean freight, including bookings, cut-offs, bills of lading and destination milestones. Interviewers are looking for close attention to detail and an ability to prevent expensive delays when a sailing or handover changes.
How to prepare
- Review the sequence from booking request through empty release, terminal gate-in, sailing, discharge and container return.
- Practise checking shipper, consignee, cargo, container and routing details on a draft bill of lading.
- Prepare an example of managing a rolled booking, missed cut-off or delayed vessel.
- Be ready to explain how you monitor free time and reduce storage, detention or demurrage exposure.
- Refresh the operational differences between full-container-load and less-than-container-load movements.
Common mistakes
- Confusing carrier cut-off, documentation cut-off and terminal gate-in requirements.
- Approving a draft bill of lading without checking names, cargo details and routing.
- Waiting for a customer to ask before reporting a material schedule change.
- Discussing delays without explaining how you controlled resulting charges.
