About the role
This interview covers first-line maintenance on mobile equipment used around a mine, such as haul trucks, loaders and excavators. The panel is assessing safe isolation, logical diagnosis, careful servicing and whether your records help the operation make sound decisions.
How to prepare
- Review daily inspection points for tyres, brakes, steering, fluids, hoses, filters and warning systems.
- Practise a step-by-step diagnosis for overheating, loss of hydraulic power and unusual noise.
- Revise how to control gravity, hydraulic pressure, electrical energy and unexpected machine movement.
- Prepare an example of a mechanical fault you found through inspection or testing.
- Review what belongs in a clear maintenance job card and shift handover.
Common mistakes
- Replacing a failed part without investigating why it failed.
- Starting work before the machine and stored energy are fully secured.
- Guessing at a fault instead of checking symptoms and basic test results.
- Returning equipment to service without recording an outstanding defect.
