About the programme
This MEd interview explores how you understand leadership in schools and other learning settings. The panel looks for thoughtful links between evidence, people and learner outcomes, as well as the ability to question your own practice. You do not need to hold a senior title, but your examples should show influence and reflection.
How to prepare
- Identify an education problem you understand well and separate its symptoms from likely causes.
- Review an improvement effort and note the evidence used before, during and after it.
- Prepare an example of influencing colleagues when you did not have formal authority.
- Think through how resource choices can affect different groups of learners and staff.
- Read about one leadership idea and compare it with what you have observed in practice.
Common mistakes
- Equating leadership only with giving instructions or holding a senior post.
- Proposing a solution before examining why the education problem exists.
- Using assessment results as the only evidence of meaningful improvement.
- Blaming resistant colleagues without considering trust, workload or implementation.
