About the role
A materials planning assistant translates production needs into timely material requirements and keeps planning data current. The interview focuses on stock, bills of materials, lead times, shortages and clear coordination with production, purchasing and warehouse teams. The panel is looking for careful reasoning, not unsupported guesses.
How to prepare
- Review how a production plan, bill of materials, current stock, open orders and lead times fit together.
- Practise a simple material requirement calculation and explain each input.
- Prepare an example of finding an error in a spreadsheet or set of records.
- Think through how you would rank shortages by their effect on the production schedule.
- Revise the spreadsheet or planning-system functions you can use confidently.
Common mistakes
- Calculating requirements without checking units, scrap assumptions or current stock.
- Changing the plan as soon as system stock disagrees with a physical count.
- Treating every shortage as equally urgent.
- Reporting a problem without stating its timing and production impact.
