About the role
This interview covers the independent measurement and control of risks created by trading and treasury positions. The panel is looking for technical understanding, careful investigation of unusual movements and the confidence to escalate genuine exceptions.
How to prepare
- Review duration, yield movements, foreign exchange exposure, sensitivities and common market risk limits.
- Practise reconciling a daily profit or loss movement to positions and market data.
- Prepare an example where you investigated a limit exception or unexpected exposure.
- Rehearse explaining the limits of model-based risk measures in plain language.
Common mistakes
- Reciting formulas without explaining the risk they measure.
- Accepting a front-office explanation before checking positions and source data.
- Treating a limit breach as harmless because it was corrected quickly.
