About the role
A maintenance graduate trainee supports the people who keep production equipment safe and available. The interview checks your engineering basics, your approach to faults and whether you will follow isolation procedures, listen to operators and document what you find.
How to prepare
- Review common mechanical and electrical failure symptoms on conveyors, pumps, motors and filling equipment.
- Revise safe isolation principles and the limits of work you should perform without authorisation.
- Prepare a practical example where you diagnosed, repaired or improved a machine or system.
- Practise explaining planned maintenance tasks such as inspection, cleaning, lubrication and replacement.
- Think through how you would communicate an unfinished repair at shift change.
Common mistakes
- Starting a repair before confirming isolation and permission to work.
- Guessing at a cause without first checking symptoms and recent changes.
- Presenting yourself as above routine inspection, cleaning or record keeping.
