About the role
A loss adjuster investigates an insured event and reports evidence about cause, damage and the amount claimed. At trainee level, the panel is testing your method, numerical care, writing and independence rather than expecting you to know every policy wording. Good answers make clear what is known, what is missing and what should happen next.
How to prepare
- Practise building a chronology from an incident account, records and physical observations.
- Review how photographs, invoices, inventory records, repair estimates and witness accounts can support a claim investigation.
- Prepare an example of questioning inconsistent information without accusing anyone.
- Practise a simple damage estimate and state every assumption behind it.
- Think through how you would remain impartial when the policyholder and insurer want different outcomes.
Common mistakes
- Assuming that every item claimed was damaged by the reported event.
- Accusing a policyholder of fraud before gathering and testing the evidence.
- Hiding uncertainty instead of recording missing information and limitations.
- Confirming claim payment when your role is to investigate and report.
