About this interview
This interview assesses whether you are a genuine student with a coherent reason for studying in Japan. The interviewer may examine your academic background, knowledge of the programme, funding arrangements and the connection between the course and your longer-term plans.
How to prepare
- Review the programme content and prepare specific reasons for your choice of course and institution.
- Connect your transcripts, previous subjects and experience to the work you expect to do on the programme.
- Make sure you can explain the source and structure of your study funding accurately.
- Research accommodation, transport and language support without presenting guesses as facts.
- Check the official Japanese government site and the relevant official mission for current visa rules and interview instructions.
Common mistakes
- Giving only the country's reputation as the reason for choosing the programme.
- Knowing little about the subjects you will study.
- Giving unclear or conflicting answers about who will pay for your studies.
- Describing future plans that do not connect with the proposed course.
