About this interview
This interview explores whether you can serve responsibly in a community outside your usual cultural setting. The panel looks for realistic motivation, humility, adaptability, respect for local leadership and sound safeguarding judgement.
How to prepare
- Research the host community and programme purpose without assuming that broad country information describes every local experience.
- Prepare an example of adapting your behaviour after feedback from someone with a different perspective.
- Think through how you would manage disrupted plans, basic facilities or limited connectivity.
- Review the programme's safeguarding, conduct and reporting guidance.
- Identify skills you can offer and the limits of your experience.
Common mistakes
- Presenting the placement mainly as an adventure or a way to improve your profile.
- Assuming you know what a community needs before listening to local partners.
- Treating flexibility as permission to ignore safeguarding or programme boundaries.
